Cement is one of the most important building materials in the world and has been used for millions of years. It is created by combining calcium, silicon, aluminium, iron and other ingredients such as limestone, clay and sand. It is the main component of concrete and is essentially a substance used in construction to bind materials together such as sand and aggregate. Cement is often lime-based and can be characterized as either hydraulic or non-hydraulic. Hydraulic cement has the ability to set and harden very quickly when mixed with water. It is used to prevent leaks in concrete and masonry structures and therefore incredibly useful in the construction of swimming pools, drainage systems, foundations and fountains for example. Non-hydraulic cement reacts with carbon dioxide instead of water and is resistant to attack by chemicals after setting. There are many different types of hydraulic and non-hydraulic cement, each with its own properties, uses and advantages, and each variety that is manufactured has to comply with specific industry standards and norms. BIDHAA ZA SARUJI

Lafarge Tanzania hutengeneza bidhaa mbalimbali za saruji chini ya chapa ya saruji ya Tembo. Nembo ya tembo mweupe ni maarufu sana nchini Tanzania na chapa hii ina aina tano za saruji, ambazo zote husaidia kuijenga Tanzania.

Lafarge Tanzania imekuwa ikiitengenezea nchi hii na mataifa jirani bidhaa yetu ya saruji ya Tembo, ambayo ni ya kiwango cha kimataifa, kwa zaidi ya miaka 30. Ofisi yetu ya kuu na kiwanda jumuisha kikamilifu zipo Songwe, Mkoa wa Mbeya, Kusini Magharibi mwa Tanzania.

AGGREGATES

Holcim has 648 aggregate plants worldwide with 11 816 employees.

Aggregates are fragments of rock measuring from 0.08 to 80 mm in diameter. Typically the most common size of aggregate used in construction is 20mm. They are a vital component in construction and are extracted from quarries, crushed and then calibrated. They appear in a range of products such as gravel, sand and crushed rock.

Aggregates are the most mined materials in the world and have many uses and functions in residential and commercial construction such as support, structural filling, draining, reinforcement and aesthetic applications. They are commonly used as a low-cost extender that binds with cement or asphalt to form concrete and used in the construction of houses, bridges and other similar structures.

MAWE

Holcim ina jumla ya viwanda 648 vya kokoto, vinavyowaajiri watu 11,816 kote duniani.

Mawe haya yana kipimo cha milimita 0.08 hadi 80. Kawaida, ukubwa wa kokoto unaotumika zaidi katika ujenzi ni milimita 20. Mawe haya, ambayo hufukuliwa kwenye machimbo, kusagwa na kupimwa, ni muhimu katika ujenzi. Mawe haya hufanywa nyenzo mbalimbali kama vile kokoto, changarawe na mawe yaliyosagwa.
