Cement

The Holcim Group has 226 cement and grinding plants worldwide with 56 133 employees.

Cement is one of the most important building materials in the world and has been used for millions of years. It is created by combining calcium, silicon, aluminium, iron and other ingredients such as limestone, clay and sand. It is the main component of concrete and is essentially a substance used in construction to bind materials together such as sand and aggregate.

Aggregates

The Holcim Group has 648 aggregate plants worldwide with 11 816 employees.

Aggregates are fragments of rock measuring from 0.08 to 80 mm in diameter. Typically the most common size of aggregate used in construction is 20mm. They are a vital component in construction and are extracted from quarries, crushed and then calibrated. They appear in a range of products such as gravel, sand and crushed rock.
